Welcome Students and Parents! My name is Sam Bond and I am teaching the Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Integrated Sciences: Earth Science core classes this year, as well as a few electives, such as Environmental Science. This is my first year at Toledo Jr/Sr High School and I am very excited to be a Boomer!
My goal as your teacher is to inspire a curiosity for science and to help prepare you for inside and outside the classroom. My philosophy follows Albert Einstein's "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think."
I'm originally from New Hampshire and received my bachelor's degree in Marine Science at the University of Maine. While studying at the University, I worked in an oceanography lab and completed my thesis on marine plankton.
Post-graduation, I worked as a researcher, first in fisheries as a NOAA Observer, followed by a broader ecosystems-based research at the Marine Biological Laboratory. Last year, I moved to Oregon and began teaching at the Oregon Coast Community College in the Aquarium Science Program, in the education department at the Oregon Coast Aquarium and in the after school STEAM Program run by the OSU Extension Office.
In my free time, you can find me climbing mountains, biking the backcountry, snowboarding and spearfishing with my partners in crime: my boyfriend, Perry, and my dog Ike.
